A Fantastic Start to Our New Respiratory Lunch Club Series

A Fantastic Start to Our New Respiratory Lunch Club Series

Yesterday marked the launch of our very first Respiratory Lunch Club, and what a fantastic start it was.

We were delighted to welcome over 270 healthcare professionals from across primary care to join us for an interactive lunchtime session focused on:

Spirometry: The Clinical Report and Interpretation

The level of engagement throughout the webinar was exceptional, with clinicians sharing questions, clinical experiences, and practical challenges faced in everyday respiratory practice.

It was clear that spirometry interpretation continues to be an area where many healthcare professionals are keen to build confidence and consistency — particularly as high-quality diagnostic assessment becomes increasingly important in primary care.

Why This Topic Matters

Spirometry remains one of the most valuable tools we have in respiratory medicine, but it is also one of the most misunderstood.

Producing technically acceptable spirometry is only part of the process. Understanding how to interpret results accurately, identify common pitfalls, and translate findings into meaningful clinical reports is equally important.

During the session, we explored:

  • The structure of an effective clinical spirometry report
  • Understanding obstructive, restrictive, and mixed patterns
  • The importance of FEV₁/FVC interpretation and lower limit of normal (LLN)
  • Recognising poor quality or unreliable traces
  • Common interpretation mistakes in primary care
  • Linking spirometry findings with the wider clinical picture

Most importantly, we focused on making spirometry interpretation practical and clinically relevant for busy primary care teams.

A Huge Thank You

We would like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a positive and enthusiastic session.

The feedback we received was incredibly encouraging, with many delegates commenting on how practical, clear, and clinically useful the webinar was. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm for improving respiratory diagnosis and patient care.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning.

Our Respiratory Lunch Club series has been designed to provide accessible, practical, evidence-based respiratory education for healthcare professionals working in primary care.

Future sessions will cover a wide range of respiratory topics including:

  • COPD
  • Asthma
  • Inhaler technique
  • FeNO testing
  • Difficult respiratory cases
  • ILD recognition
  • And much more

We are excited to continue building this growing respiratory learning community over the coming months.

If you missed yesterday’s session, don’t worry — further events and training opportunities will be announced soon.

Thank you again for making our first Respiratory Lunch Club such a resounding success.
