Spirometry Programmes

Structured, ARTP-aligned spirometry programmes designed to strengthen diagnostic accuracy, quality assurance and clinical confidence in primary care.

Why Quality Assured Spirometry Matters in Primary Care.

Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of safe respiratory care.

Spirometry performed without robust quality assurance risks misdiagnosis, inappropriate prescribing and delayed recognition of significant disease.

Asthma, COPD and other causes of breathlessness can present with overlapping symptoms.

Without technically acceptable and reproducible spirometry — interpreted correctly using predicted values and lower limits of normal — clinicians cannot confidently confirm or exclude airflow obstruction.

In primary care, poor-quality spirometry can lead to:

  • Overdiagnosis of COPD in older adults.

  • Missed asthma in younger patients.

  • Inappropriate long-term inhaler therapy.

  • Failure to identify restrictive patterns requiring further investigation.

Quality-assured spirometry ensures:

  • Correct test performance and reproducibility.

  • Accurate interpretation using current international standards.

  • Safer prescribing decisions.

  • Appropriate referral when needed.

  • Greater confidence in long-term disease management.

About

Created and Delivered by an Experienced Primary Care Clinician

All content has been written and is delivered by Tracy Kirk, who has:

  • Over 20 years’ experience using spirometry in general practice.

  • More than 15 years’ experience teaching practice nurses and primary care teams to perform high-quality spirometry.

  • Extensive experience supporting practices to improve technical standards and governance.

This means the teaching goes beyond theory.  It reflects real-world challenges – time pressures, variable patient effort, equipment issues and reporting uncertainties commonly faced in day-to-day practice.

Our Spirometry Courses

Aligned to ARTP standards for quality assured spirometry.
CPD-accredited. Structured to support safe, defensible clinical practice in primary care.

Why Us?

High-quality spirometry begins with technical excellence.

Our practical spirometry programmes are designed specifically for clinicians working in primary care who are responsible for delivering accurate, reproducible and quality-assured testing.

We offer both Adult and Paediatric pathways, recognising that spirometry in children requires additional confidence, communication skills and technical awareness.

Designed for Primary Care.
Aligned to National Standards.

While aligned to national standards, these programmes are not hospital-based respiratory physiology courses repackaged for general practice. They have been created specifically for the realities, pressures and practicalities of primary care.

Our focus is simple...

To help primary care clinicians deliver spirometry that is:

  • Technically accurate

  • Quality graded appropriately

  • Reproducible and defensible

  • Clinically meaningful

These programmes strengthen confidence, improve diagnostic accuracy and support practices in meeting quality and governance expectations.
