The New Skills and NEXT STEPS Programme
At the Primary Care Respiratory Training Centre, we have spent over 20 years equipping primary care-based healthcare professionals with the expertise required to assess and manage Asthma and COPD effectively.
Drawing on this wealth of experience, we’ve created a proven, step-by-step training approach that empowers HCPs with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in respiratory care.
Our training is carefully structured into two complementary courses:
- The New Skills Course
- The NEXT STEPS Course
While these programmes can be taken individually, they are designed to work together, offering a comprehensive and cohesive learning journey.
The New Skills Course
Even for HCPs with experience working on respiratory wards in hospitals, the skills needed in general practice are significantly different.
Managing patients with asthma and COPD in a primary care setting requires a distinct approach, one that focuses on long-term care, patient education, and community-based management, all of which differ from the acute, hospital-based care many are accustomed to.
This course provides HCPs transitioning from secondary to primary care with the specific skills they need to confidently manage respiratory conditions in a primary care environment.
